Welding property improvement
PWHT reduces or redistributes the residual stress introduced by the welding process with a technique that involves heating, soaking and cooling the welds to controlled temperatures. This improves the properties of the welds.
Calpiping Industrial performs all our own PWHT using both electric resistance coils and furnace running the latest technically advanced computerized monitoring software for all our pressure piping and specialty fabrications requiring PWHT per ASME Code.
Equipment
Equipment:
1- Furnace – 20’ x 8’ x 8’ (Gas Fired) Can heat up to 1,500°F
- All spools are supported or braced to eliminate distortion during the PWHT cycle.
- All machine surfaces and threads are protected from oxidations during PWHT.
- Furnace is calibrated and certified every six (6) months and inspected prior to each use.
2 – 6 Way Power Console (Electric 480V) Computer Monitored
1 – 6-Way Console (Electric 480V) with Chart Recorder
PWHT is performed due to mandatory code requirements, operating process and or client specifications. Typical materials we PWHT at our facility are:
- Carbon Steel – A106 Gr. B, A36, A516 Gr 570 etc.
- Stainless Steel. 321, 347
- Monel 400, Inconel
- Chromes Moly Alloy - P11, P22, P5, P9 and P91 Type 1&2
Our highly skilled and trained technicians ensure that all welds (spools, vessels or fabrications) are Post Weld Heat Treated per applicable code, per client specification and machined surfaces protected prior to the start of the PWHT cycle.
Calpiping Industrial also provides the non-destructive inspections that are normally required after PWHT is completed - including hardness testing and Penetrant Examination (PT) using our in house ASNT NDT Level II.
